milktown.shop is a small, independent shop. we want everyone to be able to browse and buy here, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnifiers, voice control or other assistive technology.
the standard we aim for
we aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. these guidelines explain how to make websites easier to use for people with disabilities. we're a tiny team and we're still working toward that goal. we don't claim the site fully meets it yet.
what we've done so far
the shop is built on Shopify's Dawn theme, which Shopify designs and tests with accessibility in mind.
we checked the colors we use for text and buttons so they're easy to read against their backgrounds.
our product photos and hand-drawn titles have text descriptions for screen readers.
menus, product pages and the cart can be used with a keyboard, and there's a visible outline showing where you are.
if your device is set to reduce motion, our animations turn off.
we don't use "accessibility overlay" widgets. we'd rather fix the site itself.
known limitations
most of our art is hand-drawn and a little messy on purpose. we write text descriptions for it, but we may miss some as we add new things.
checkout and payments are run by Shopify, and videos we link to are hosted on YouTube. those companies control the accessibility of their own parts.
